Pierce: named the miracle baby for the day!

That's right! He's still fighting. Our Lord has answered our prayer today and has sustained little Pierce. We are making it through a new nursing shift and can't wait to bust down the doors in a minute (they kick you out when change over occurs) and see the same nurse who looked at us with weepy, helpless eyes this morning (she, and everyone else fully intended to see Pierce leave this earth early this morning.) We can't wait to proclaim, "See what God has done!"
I wish God's miracles came quickly. I guess that's the American, fast-food mentality in me. I longed to see him jump from that isolette and into my arms this morning. BUT God is teaching us so much by granting us patience and hope. We have seen that God perform a HUGE miracle throughout the course of the day. Pierce's heart has kept beating. And beating strong! Many of his organs are functioning remarkably well given the gest. age he is at! And the hospital staff literally has no explanation for this! They can't explain why his potassium hit 9.9 (our nurse told us she had never seen it nearly this high without causing the heart to stop immediately) this morning, but yet it has steadily trended downward despite NO medication being given. Nik and I are trying to rest in Christ mercy in this beautiful moment of peace to which he has granted us.
We know God is probably going to put Pierce through many trials before we leave CMC, but we are trusting in Him to bring home a healthy baby boy in late July/early August. We are trusting him to grant us grace and hope when we face the next hurdle.
Keep praying! It is working and God is glorifying himself by proving that He is the sustainer of life. Pray also for Lindsay as she tries to heal from an emergency c-section (very hard to do when you're up all night sitting by your little boy's bed). And please, please pray that tonight as we sit with Pierce, that he will make remarkable LEAPS forward in terms of progress. We know that medically speaking, there is still a slim chance that Pierce will live. But with God, all things truly are possible. We love you all!

  4. Praying for you Nik and Lindsay and for Pierce. My parents also received a 30% chance that I would live when I was born with a heart defect, but the Lord's plans were different for me, and here I am, alive to pray for your little guy. May his heart continue to beat with strength, and may the Lord continue to sustain you and reign his peace upon your hearts. (Pierce is a beautiful and strong name by the way)

  10. Just read your blog after seeing a link from a facebbok friend. My 6 year old daughter's good friend at school was born at 23 weeks. He is thriving and a joy to his parents, a gift from God. Will be praying for Pierce and your family.
