Pierce is getting the best blood gas results that he ever has. Last night was a really good night. This morning they took an x-ray of Pierce's stomach and were a little suspicious of a spot in his bowel walls. The radiologist said that he did not see anything but the neonatologist and nurse practitioner saw a spot that could possibly be air in his bowel walls. Air in the bowel walls is usually the result of an infection and can cause perforations in the intestine, which is a really bad thing and would require an emergency surgery that is very high risk. They are getting another x-ray at 4 p.m. and we are praying that it is clear and that there are no air bubbles in the walls of the bowels. Please pray that Pierce's bowels remain strong and intact and that there would be no perforations. Whatever the x-ray shows, it will not change the course of treatment, unless of course an emergency arises as a result. Pierce has been on antibiotics as a precautionary measure since Friday. If Pierce does have an infection, his bowels just need to stay strong and not perforate until the infection is gone. So that is where we are at today. Hopefully by God's grace there is nothing going on in Pierce's bowel and we can just move forward. Also pray as they are scheduled to attempt a spinal tap again today around 3 or 4 this afternoon. Pray that Pierce tolerates the positioning and that he is free of pain during the procedure. Continue praying for the fluid in his brain. We pray that God miraculously heals this, but at this point it seems to still be swelling.
Thank you for your prayers.
Love,
Nik, Lindsay, and Pierce.
