The Struggle

It seems like we took some steps back today. Pierce keeps on dropping his oxygen levels. They put him on nitric oxide in addition to the oscillator but he still is having some drops. His oxygen on the oscillator right now is set at about 88%, so they don't have much room to go up. Please pray for his lungs and his PDA, which is probably contributing to his drops as well. Pierce will still be in critical condition for sometime and our nurse tonight told us this is par for the course.

Today was a struggle for us. It is so hard to see Pierce laying there needing so much help and for such an extended period of time. It is only day 10 and if all goes really well the earliest he will get out is late July. But still, there are no guarantees. Especially for the first month. We are experiencing that now. We will keeping trusting and putting our hope in the Lord. This is not going to be easy, but He has proved Himself faithful thus far and we trust He will continue to do so.

Tonight we are in the hospital again. Pierce is one of five babies in the NICU system with his own nurse 24/7, so we are up on the list for getting an overnight room here. We were going to try and go home tonight, but tonight just isn't a good night to go home.

Thank you for all the support. Please continue pray for Pierce's full recovery, but specifically right now for his brain (bleeding), lungs, and PDA.

Grace and Peace,

Nik, Lindsay, and Pierce

  1. Nik and Lindsay,

All I can say is that God is so faithful and does work miracles. My twins Jennifer and Jessica were born at 32 weeks and spent 14 days in NICU. Those were the most difficult days of my life but those memories of the miracles that God showed me helped me to confess his existance to others that were in need and did not have the same conviction. Again I had a brain aneurism in 2005, I spent 37 days in neuro-ICU and the prognosis was very bad, I would have no eyesite, I would not be able to balance or walk on my own. God had other plans, I depended on him and he came thru. I have had no headaches, no seizures, my right eye has a blurred vision and that was my only handicap. The doctors call me their miracle. God will do and deliver our needs, God placed this fingerprint on your heart for a reason. You are walking in faith. You are realizing mankind does not have the power or strength to change the future, but thru faith and faith alone we are able to walk mine fields. In Christ all things are possible, it by faith not strength and power that we obtain all the necessary strenth and power to move a mountain.

God loves you just as you love pierce. You are the training ground for the faith that pierce will one day hold in his heart. This experience is a walk of belief and at the end of the path you will one day look back and realize just how narrow the path was but God gave you the balance for each step. We do not understand his purpose but one day in your future you will look at this as one of the great miracles you were able to witness and share with the world. More and more people are following this and the lives you are touching will forever hold the fingerprints of Nik, Lindsay, and Pierce Franks. We pray for you on this journey and know that God is in control.

  2. Sending our prayers all the way from Montana. We already have a place in our heart for precious Baby Pierce. No one can understand what it's like to have a baby so very early, unless you've been there and know the long struggle ahead. We are praying for you, for your endurance. For Pierce's brain, PDA, and lungs specifically.

  3. If you have trouble getting the room, don't forget my friend that lives near the hospital. I emailed you her info, Lindsay. I wouldn't hesitate to give them a call!

  4. I have never met you but happened to pass on a friends page and saw your blog. I have been fervently praying for you ever since. My nephew was born at 27 weeks and it was a constant one step forward and two steps back dance. (he is now two and a half and the sweetest kid) I am in awe of your faith and cannot imagine being able to be so strong.
