Pierce had a great day today. He finished his bottles like a champ. In fact, he did so well, that the nurses are going to ask the dr. if he can be allowed to take more than 4 a day.

Also, his follow-up eye exam went well. Dr.Gillig said that there is some hemorrhaging, but that is common and to be expected. For now, the ROP seems to have calmed and the retina is nice a flat (no detachment, which is good!). She said they'll just have to follow it closely (weekly eye exams) and make sure that it resolves on its own. Pierce tolerated the eye exam really well... I really don't know how he does it. I think I'd pass out if they came near me with that eye probe.

I was also able to talk with the neurosurgeon about the possible shunt. He said that because there was no change in the ventricle size this week, we could definitely postpone shunting until/if there was significant change or worsening. Pierce's ventricles have remained stable for the past month and a half, and there's a chance he may not require a shunt (yeah!). For now, the approach we are going to take is to monitor the size of his ventricles with weekly (maybe monthly if there's no change for a while) ultrasounds and we will see Dr.Heafner in his office once Pierce goes home. Please continue to pray that his ventricles will drain on their own and that P will not require a shunt.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

Love,
Lindsay, Nik and Pierce
