Happy 4th of July!

This time last year, I couldn't have dreamed of doing what we did today. I didn't allow myself to dream it. Things were so fragile. Decisions so critical. To imagine a carefree day where Pierce's micropreemie issues took the backseat to fun...well, that was just hard to imagine. 

But by God's grace, here we were. Celebrating our country's independence with friends and family. Dipping my 20+ lb (on this day last year, P only weighed 5lbs 1 oz!) chub of a baby into the cool lake water.There are no words to describe how grateful Nik and I are to have been allowed this opportunity.

 This baby lifejacket cracked us up. Despite looking like the kid from "A Christmas Story," Pierce didn't seem to mind. After all, it wasn't the worst apparatus that's ever been strapped to his body.
