Our first good Saturday in 4 weeks! Hallelujah.

We just got in from visiting Pierce tonight. Little man is doing MUCH better. Thank you so much for your prayers. He has had a pretty good day today, with his vitals and lab working looking lots better. This is an excellent sign. They were unable to do the spinal tap today as Pierce was not really tolerating the position. They will give it another go at some point tomorrow.

When we went in tonight, his nurse, Ashlie had an early Mother's Day surprise for me... she let me hold Pierce tonight!!! It was our first attempt at kangaroo care, a form of holding where they literally place the baby down in your shirt to allow for some skin to skin contact. I was so excited to be able to finally hold Pierce and snuggle on him. Although I'd be lying if I didn't also say that I was scared out of my mind. He is so fragile, so tiny and so complicated (there is a sea of wires that accompanies him anywhere he goes). But as soon as he was on my chest, I was in heaven. And apparently so was Pierce. He squirmed right in and his vitals were so good that his nurse had to continually wean his ventilator. I held him for what seemed like 10 minutes, but in reality it was more like an hour and 15 minutes. It was so amazing to hold/rock him and feel like I was doing something for him that only a mother can do. To do something that is seemingly normal, was a wonderful change from the chaos that has surrounded our first weeks with him.

We wanted to share with you guys some pictures from tonight:

So as I get ready for bed, I go to sleep with a joyful heart...praising God for the amazing opportunity to hold my son. Praising God for the many miracles He has performed in his life thus for. And trusting in Him for our future.

Much love,
Lindsay

  1. Lindsey, I am so in awe of how God has (and will continue to) answer the prayers for your precious little boy. As I looked at these pictures, I so remember that precious little girl in K-4. You have matured into such a Godly woman. I am thrilled that you got to hold Pierce tonight. What a wonderful Mother's Day present. Prayers continue to be lifted up every day for you, Nik and especially Pierce.

  3. Praise God!

When I saw the pictures I started crying. My heart just burst with joy to see your baby caressed against your body where you both long for him to be.

I hope in the near future there will be hours and hours of skin-to-skin for you and Nik to share with Pierce. Nothing "works" better, because "kangaroo care" really is God's design for (even full-term) newborns!

Loving this post and keeping you in prayer.

  9. Happy Mother's Day ! This post made me cry. It brought back memoires of when I kangarooed my sweet Naomi Hope. They are very precious and I wish I kangarooed her more often. I only got to once because she was very ill towards the end. I did hold her a couple of times, I wish I did more as well. When and if you can, PUSH for those kangaroo times and hold Pierce as much as possible. Bless you & I have been praying for your family.

  14. You don't know us, we go to church with the Joines and the Ashbaughs - Kathy & Patrick Larson - but we've been praying for you and rejoicing with you and being amazed with you this whole time. Every night when we're putting our almost 3 year old son (Caleb) to bed, he says, "Don't forget to pray for Baby Pierce." I haven't written anything before now, but I just wanted to let you know that when I read this entry I cried. Like REALLY cried... even more than the others. Skin-on-skin is one of the most beautiful experiences a mom has with her newborn, so powerful... and I am just so thankful for you and Pierce that you were able to have that. God truly is amazing and you (all 3) are amazing, and such a testament to His love, His power, and what it means to trust in Him. God bless. - Kathy
